Street art comes to life in the Bronx

The street has provided inspiration for artists for decades, and now through Jan. 25, the Bronx Museum of the Arts explores this idea in the exhibition, Street Art, Street Life: From the 1950s to Now.

Organized by guest curator Lydia Yee of the Barbican Art Gallery in London, the exhibit showcases a variety of work from artists and photographers who went beyond artistic conventions to find the beauty in the grit and grime of the streets. The exhibit is one of the largest to consider the subject of street art, and is a must-see for any art enthusiast.

The Bronx Museum of Art is open everyday except Tuesday and Wednesday.

Not just any walk through the park

A few years ago I took a free tour of Central Park, and even though I had been there several times before, there was much I did not know about its history, its design and natural wonders. I came away from the tour with an even stronger appreciation of the Park.

While you may have visited this park before, if you haven’t yet taken a tour of this fascinating space, you owe it to yourself to do so. If you’re visiting the park for the first time, then there’s no better way to get acquainted with a piece of NYC history.

On a free, guided walking tour of Central Park you will explore some of the park’s great features such as Strawberry Fields, the statue of Alice in Wonderland and more. You’ll also learn about the park’s design, including how the street lamps indicate the street number, and about the variety of flora that is abundant throughout the park.

Tours are led by the Central Park Conservancy and last about 1 to 1 ½ hours. For more information visit http://www.centralparknyc.org.

If you'd like to explore Central Park, NYC Limo can get you there in plenty of time to meet your tour guide and you'll be on your way to learn more about NYC.

Explore the rich history of Castle Clinton

New York City's rich history includes Castle Clinton, a national monument located in Battery Park in lower Manhattan that once served as a fort, then a theater and then an immigration station.

Its the monuments last identity that may come as a surprise to visitors to New York. Though Ellis Island is best known for its role in United States immigration, Castle Clinton, known as Castle Garden at the time, opened in 1855, before Ellis Island, making it the first immigration station in the country. During the 34 years Castle Garden operated, more than 8 million people entered the United States.

Hard to imagine, that a place with such a rich history could ever be destroyed, but it almost happened in 1946. Fortunately, Castle Clinton was restored to its original look as a fort. Today, it serves as both a museum and ticket office for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Ferry.

Castle Clinton is open daily (except December 25), 8:30 am - 5:00 PM. Due to inclement weather, the sight might close. Please call ahead. 212-344-7220

If you'd like to take in the historic wonders of Castle Clinton, contact NYC Limo.
